Producer Profile

Grove Estate is a small award winning, family run vineyard, owned by Rob and Liz

Grove with three generations actively involved in the business. Grove estate aim is to be recognised as a truly local producer of high-quality wines. They are very proud to represent Eccleshall, Staffordshire is not known for English wines however Grove estate south facing slope attached to their property is producing fantastic wines.

As Single Estate producer, releasing between 2000-3000 bottles a year there is a

real exclusivity about this winery. Away from the known chalky soils of Kent this little

winery produces complex wines that is different to your standard English Sparkling.

Viticulture

Grove estate proudly grows three varieties of hybrid grapes including Rondo,

Phoenix and Seyval Blanc. All varieties are perfect for the UK climate; The climate in

Eccleshall is warm and temperate with a great deal of rainfall. The temperature here

averages 9.4 °C while the rainfall here averages 721 mm. The 6.7 pH of the soil,

moderate amount of organic matter and the levels of phosphorus and potassium are

ideal for the cultivation of fruit crops, the land was previously farmland with cows

roaming the slopes which has helped increase the fertility of the soil.

Wine making

Wine making is not conducted on the estate, once harvested in late August, the

grapes are sent to half penny winery where the wines undergo traditional wine

making methods with extended time on the lees.

Tasting notes

A weighty wine with real depth coming from the the Phoenix grapes which lift the pallet with cool minerality and gentle acidity, plenty of fruit and a lengthy finish. A truly delicious wine with remnants of white wines found in Saxony.
